Computer Skills Required for Success in Online Education

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

True they say. …learning doesn’t end at school or college. Even after you start working, you can continue your education through online courses. You can enjoy career benefits by studying online but for that you need to have certain computer skills like the ability to work on Windows, use the Internet, and a word processor like Microsoft Word.

But first of all check your computer skills before you begin any online course. If you don’t know how to work in Windows then you’ll have a lot of trouble in saving your assignments and sending them to your online coach. Since you may have to open more than one browser window for study purposes, you must know how to resize a window, minimize it and maximize it.

You should also be aware of the use of Internet. Using a browser to access the course online is the most important part of online education. Make sure you learn how to use the search engines for searching information on the Net. You’ll have to navigate to your assignment folder and access the online library if there’s any. The learning environment on the web is entirely different from that of traditional educational environments.

Another important thing that you need to know is communicating through emails. Well, that is how you’ll be submitting your assignments to your teacher most of the times. Email is one of the chief ways of communicating with your fellow students and teachers. If you fail to attend an online class due to sickness or any other emergency, you can use the email to inform concerned authorities.

Most online courses require you to submit assignments that are typed in a word processor like Microsoft Word. And often you’ll have to make presentations as a part of your assignment and for that PowerPoint is very helpful. Hope you’ll find all these information useful for starting your online education course.

Career Growth with Online Education

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Online education has set a new trend in the world of higher and professional education. After finishing my graduate studies I could not complete my post graduation as I had to look for a job. As I got more involved in my work I distanced away from studies and doing a post graduate degree seemed to be impossible. I would have to leave my job and attend college in order to fulfill my dream. Although I tried every option to get a degree but failed in my endeavor since the place I was working at was far away from the city.

Few years back I met a friend who studied with me in college. Both of us started working at the same time and I expected he would be at the same level as I was when I met him. But he wasn’t. He was manager of a large multinational organization with greater responsibilities than what I had. He told about online education that helped me grow in his career.

Soon I started searching for a suitable online post graduate course that can prove beneficial to me. Since the courses were taught online there was no need to attend college and I could manage studies from anywhere I had Internet connection. I joined a specialized management course on supply chain. During the day I would be at work while at night I would study. I passed the course with good grades and joined an MNC in the general management cadre. Today I have a similar profile as my friend.

Study at your Own Pace through Online Education

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

Let’s be practical. Do you have time to attend regular classes in a college or university? Most of my friends, are graduate and full time working professional. They want to study English literature but can’t manage a full time course. So, a bachelor’s or a master’s degree in English literature from an accredited college or university is what they look for a career growth. Another friend of mine has been working for some years in a managerial position and wishes to enhance his career through an MBA degree. But taking a break for two to three years is out of the question!

Opt for online education and study at your own pace. If you study online, you can save a lot of time by working and studying at the same time. Besides that, studying online is usually less expensive, without compromising on the quality of the course. In fact, many colleges and universities around the world have realized the potential of online education and are offering a varied assortment of courses. You can now study traditional as well as innovative courses from these institutions through the Internet.

Whatever may be the reason for deciding to select an online education program, make sure that you carefully measure all the pros and cons before taking the plunge! Make a thorough check of the credentials of the college or university that is offering the course of your choice. The course you opt to pursue should have been accredited by an authorized accreditation body. So, through online education you can now study at your own schedule and carry on with your job at the same time.
